I missed the last meeting. Are there minutes?

Minutes for most of the SOS meetings are available by clicking the "Meeting Minutes" link on the left. If the minutes are not there for the meeting you're interested in, either we don't have minutes, or we haven't gotten them up yet.

Is it too late to change my image?
Can you change my description for me?

You can edit your Artist Page on the website any time. This includes your images and your Artists Statements. You can put a new picture up every day if you want! Login to access you Profile. Look for Update links on the Left Menu.

The information for the printed mapbook can no longer be changed.

When can I get Postcards? Posters? Mapbooks? Balloons?
How many Postcards? Posters? Mapbooks? Ballons do we get?

Watch your SOS email for dates for the next pick-up times. As we schedule pick-up dates we'll add them to the Artists Calendar [here, and on the Left menu]. Please check the Artist Calendar before sending an email asking a question that might be answered there.

Remember we are all volunteers with other work we need to do beyond SOS. Most of us, too, are preparing our own artwork for SOS. So please, if you cannot make a scheduled date, ask a friend to go for you. (If you don't know any other SOS artists, the meet-ups are a great way to meet some!) It's simply not possible for us to make individual arrangements with every artist.

TIP: The calendar has three views—Week, Month, and Agenda—which you access by clicking on the tabs. Different people will find different view more helpful.

Postcards

SOS postcards are in now and can be picked up at any "Poster Distribution Meet-up" on the Artist Calendar. Take as many as you think you can actually distribute, but please don't just grab a handful and keep them.

See below for information on making your own customized SOS Postcards.

Posters

The SOS 2013 Poster! Art and Design by James Weinberg

Posters in English are available now. We should have our Portuguese, Spanish, and Haitian Creole posters by the first week of April. You can pick up posters at the Poster Distribution Meet-ups where you can check in with our Poster Distribution Coordinators to see what areas have been covered and what areas need to be done still.

If you have a place you want to poster, email poster@somervilleopenstudios.org. Again, please remember these volunteers are also participating artists preparing for SOS, just like you, and also have other work. Please respect their time and try to work with their posted poster-distribution schedules if possible

If you want a poster to keep for yourself, come to the Wrap-up meeting on Tuesday, May 14 at the Somerville Museum to give feedback for this year and pick up any remainders as souveniers.

Mapbooks & Ballons

We will send email to the list when mapbooks and balloons are available, and will add mapbook pick-up dates to the Artist Calendar.

Take as many mapbooks as you can actually distribute. If you frequent areas outside of Somerville in neighboring communities, or will be going to large art-related events and can take mapbooks there, please check in with our Mapbook Distribution Coordinator at map@somervilleopenstudios.org.

Distribute your mapbooks, Don't just pick them up! It's good to have a few in your studio to give to visitors, but it's far better to distribute them in the two weeks leading up to SOS.

Mapbooks will also be available for off-hour pick-up from a porch in Somerville. Watch your SOS email for details.

Mapbooks will be mailable in a business envelop but will not be "self-mailers."

Are there templates for Custom Postcards?
Where can I get a print-res version of the SOS Logo?

Customized flyers made by SOS artist Jim Baab using the custom templates. Templates created by Ellie Laramee-Byers from the original postcard by James Weinberg.

Templates are available under Promotional Materials on the Left menu. Download these .pdfs and drop them into any layout program you are comfortable using. You can make 4 x 6 Postcards or can re-size them for a letter-sized flyer. If you don't know how to use any layout program you can always pick up the general SOS postcards to use.

I heard we have Yard Signs this year?! How do I get one for my site?

YES! Improve SOS visibility. Help people know there's an event coming! Help people find your site. Get your own custom SOS Yard sign and put one out up to two weeks before the event. (Two-weeks before is VERY, VERY SOON).

Yard sign templates are available under Promotional Materials on the Left menu. Pick the one you want, download it and customize it, then order it on line from GotPrint.com. Or can order it exactly as is, then write your site number in by hand with a marker when it arrives, too.

Put one of these beauties in front of your studio! Created by Ellie Laramee-Byers from the original postcard by James Weinberg.

Sorry, we could not order signs for everyone. If you want one, please order your own on-line. If you've never used an on-line print order site before, ask a friend to help you.

What happened to the VistaPrint Portal we heard about?

VistaPrint made an offer to us in the Fall for a custom portal and promised that set up would be fast and easy when the time came. We checked back with them several times in Fall and Winter, but when we contacted them in the Spring to set up the portal, they told us that there were new contracts for 2013 and they would not honor the agreement made earlier. Draw your own conclusions about doing business with VistaPrint in the future.

You know what SOS should really do next year...?

Please jot your ideas down in a note pad and bring them to the Wrap-up and Feedback meeting on Tuesday, May 14 at the Somerville Museum! You can email ideas for next year after this year's event. Better yet, get involved early in the planning stages next year by coming to the volunter meetings.
